What is Chair Doctor Ltd?

Kevin Ball started his first job at the tender age of 16 during the mid-1980s  assembling mattresses, upholstering beds, and deep buttoned headboards, before joining the team at Alpha Office Furniture based in Tallaght Dublin.

After rising quickly through the ranks and becoming the Quality Control Manager, Kevin was given the task of achieving ISO 9002, which had recently been introduced as the world’s leading standards series for Quality Management Systems.

Kevin’s expanding experience within the office chair industry had been instrumental in him setting up a Product Development Department at Alpha, where he spent his time sourcing new and improved components for office chairs. Kevin embraced this ethos during his years with Alpha, and continued to raise the bar for both the quality and range of office seating on offer.

Experts in the field of Ergonomics

Due to Kevin’s developing interest in the area of ergonomics and posture he left Alpha after 12 years to start up his first business venture, in partnership with a renowned chiropractor who is also licensed in physiotherapy. Dr Lawrence Woods has written research in the field of spinal care and ergonomics.

Innovative pressure mapping technology and the then-new memory foam were used to produce their range of posture products including seat wedges, lumbar supports, mattresses, and pillows. Kevin’s previous knowledge ensured that the made-to-measure seating for both office and home sectors of the business became such a success that it lead to the launch of Chair Doctor.

Kevin’s challenge was to ensure that Chair Doctor could offer a complete furniture refurbishment. He recruited a talented team of upholsterers and sourced the latest fabric and components with the technology suitable for the many business sectors Chair Doctor caters for today. The company is now a key player within the office furniture solutions industry, expanding into bespoke home interiors, hospitality, education, medical, sport and retail sectors.

  • Kevin’s wealth of experience in furniture and ergonomics has built him a reputation for first-class office assessment. He takes the “only fix what’s broken” approach while offering an easy solution.
  • Over this time Kevin has explored design innovation across Europe, sourcing new technologies, and connecting with textiles and components suppliers. Kevin is also working with designers creating new high-tech hubs across Ireland.
  • Chair Doctor’s team are focusing on future projects, expanding their bespoke furniture within the workspace, hospitality, and home interiors sectors. We have exciting plans in the bariatric office and home seating, combining specially designed features to create a chair providing comfort, support, and style for the larger person.
